Kurt Giberson has served as Director of the City's Department of Public Works since 1992.
He is a graduate of Dearborn High School, and received his bachelor's degree from Wayne State University.
Before becoming Director of Public Works, Kurt Giberson served as director of the City's Communications Department, which included overseeing Dearborn's 9-1-1police and fire emergency dispatching system.
Prior to that appointment, he served as the City's telecommunications coordinator, overseeing Dearborn's government access cable television station.
Before joining the City, Kurt Giberson served as the government production coordinator for Group W Cable, and as general manager of Cambridge Engineering.
Kurt serves as chairperson of the Main Three-Four Branch of the Rouge River Sub-Watershed Advisory Group (SWAG); as a member of the Rouge River Project steering committee; as a member of the Lower Two Branch of the Rouge River SWAG; and, Rouge River Gateway Partnership. He is past president of the Michigan chapter of the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA). He is also a past member of NATOA's board of directors, and served as chairperson of the board’'s technology committee. He has received numerous awards for film and video production. Additionally, NATOA has honored Kurt with its "excellence in cable television regulation" award. He is a member of the American Public Works Association (APWA), and the Downriver Branch of the APWA.
Kurt is past president of the Exchange Club of Dearborn, and has served a board member of the Fairlane Family YMCA. He also served as chairperson of the YMCA's "Invest in Youth" campaign, and has served as an Explorer Scout post leader. He has been listed in the "Who’'s Who of Emerging Leaders in America" and "Outstanding Young Men of America."
He served as the Mayor's liason to the commission on disability concerns since its inception until July, 2002, and retains a valued role in an advisory capacity.
